For people wanting to work in Sweden

If you want to work in Sweden and come from a country that is not a part of the EU, you must have a work permit. If you plan to work in Sweden for longer than three months you will also need a residence permit.
These pages include the regulations that apply if you want to work, or start a business in Sweden.

The Employees from countries outside the EU page explains the regulations on work permits and how you apply.

Special regulations apply to certain groups, such as performing artists and athletes, and these have their own sub-headings. The same thing applies to citizens from Australia, Canada and New Zealand, where special regulations also apply.

The Self-employed page explains how you get a residence permit to start your own business.

It is often the case that you must apply for work and residence permits from your native country. However, in a few cases you can apply in Sweden - see page Applying for work permit in Sweden.

Regulations for EU citizens and their families can be found on the EU citizens and their families page.

There are a number of exemptions from the requirement to hold a work permit. These exemptions are listed on the Exemptions from the requirement to hold a work permit page.
