Employing persons visiting an employer in Sweden

A person that has travelled here to meet an employer can submit an application for a residence and work permit in Sweden.
If a person has travelled to Sweden to meet with an employer, for a job interview for instance, he/she may apply for a residence and work permit after entering the country.

For the person to be granted a work permit:

  • he/she must submit the application during the visa-free period or within the time limit of the entry visa
  • the employer must have special needs for the work to begin immediately and there is a high demand for labour in the occupation. Occupations for which there is a high demand are detailed in a special list. See the link in the right column for details.
  • the employer must have problems if the person needs to travel to another country to apply; for example it may be difficult for the employer to conduct business.

The conditions for being granted a work permit must also be met (see Employee page).
