Shorter wait for asylum seekers

EU-flagga
A new way of working at the Migration Board will make the waiting time shorter for asylum seekers. Three months from application to decision.
- Our most expansive initiative ever is currently in progress at the Swedish Migration Board — aimed at ensuring that people applying for asylum will receive rapid and legally secure decisions, says the Swedish Board´s Director-General Dan Eliasson.

By using a new more efficient method of working, the time from application to the decision will be reduced at the same time as legal security is improved. Key terms in the new method of working towards the continual improvement of every day work in the asylum process include

  • early and qualified initiatives
  • Working as teams
  • Problem solving
  • Regular coaching and
  • Follow-up
This approach promotes a significant shortening of lead times between various components of our investigations.

This new work has been tested since last spring and the development work continues in several places, among others Gothenburg, Stockholm, Malmö and Boden. The Migration Board estimates that by the end of 2010 most of the Units will be working according to the new method of working.

The development work is co-financed by the European Refugee fund (ERF).Here is a description of the process.
