A child who is a Nordic citizen
These pages explain how to submit notification of Swedish citizenship for a child under the age of 18 who is a Nordic citizen. Children may become Swedish citizens in conjunction with a parent becoming a Swedish citizen (see the pages on notification and application).
A child who is a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway can become a Swedish citizen through notification. This requires that the child:- has been resident in the country for five years and
- has not reached the age of 18.
All requirements must be fulfilled. Notification is to be submitted by the person who has custody of the child.
Submitting notification
As custodial guardian you apply by using the form Notification of Swedish citizenship for children resident in Sweden (Anmälan om svenskt medborgarskap för barn bosatt i Sverige), no. 307011. You submit the notification to the county administrative board in the county where the child is registered. Consent required
Children who have reached the age of 12 must give their written consent to become a Swedish citizen. However, this is not required if the child is unable to give its consent due to any permanent handicap or a similar condition. Documents you need to enclose
When you submit the notification to the county administrative board you need to enclose:- the child's national passport in the original
- civic registration certificate for Swedish citizenship for the child
- custody decision if someone other than the child's mother or father has custody.
If you enclose original documents, you should send your notification as registered post. All copies which are enclosed are to be certified.
Fee
Notification costs SEK 175. To find out how to pay, contact the county administrative board to which you will submit your notification. After decision
The county administrative board will send the decision to you. If the child has become a Swedish citizen and you wish to apply for a Swedish passport, you must apply to the police.
