Regaining Swedish citizenship
If you have lost or been released from Swedish citizenship, you may, under certain circumstances, regain it through notification.The rules differ depending on the country of which you are currently a citizen.
Nordic citizens
If you are currently a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway, you can regain your Swedish citizenship if you:- have been a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway since you lost your Swedish citizenship
- are currently resident (registered) in Sweden.
Application
Use the form Notification to regain Swedish citizenship (Anmälan om att återfå svenskt medborgerskap), no. 305021 and send it to the county administrative board in the county where you are registered. It is the county administrative board that decides whether you will regain your Swedish citizenship.Fee
It costs SEK 175 to regain Swedish citizenship. To find out how to pay, contact the county administrative board to which you will submit your notification. After decision
The county administrative board will send the decision to you. If you have become a Swedish citizen and wish to apply for a Swedish passport, you must apply to the police. Citizens of other countries
You can get back your Swedish citizenship if you:- have reached the age of 18
- have a permanent residence permit in Sweden
- were resident in Sweden for a total of ten years before you turned 18 and
- have now been resident (registered) in Sweden for two years.
Application
Use the form Notification to regain Swedish citizenship (Anmälan om att återfå svenskt medborgarskap), no. 305021. The form is only available in Swedish. The Migration Board will send the decision to you. If you have become a Swedish citizen and wish to apply for a Swedish passport, you must apply to the police.
