Right to appeal

Here you can read about your possibilities to appeal.

Alien's passport

The Swedish Migration Board's decisions on aliens' passports cannot be appealed.

Temporary alien's passport

The Swedish Migration Board's decisions on aliens' passports cannot be appealed.

Travel document

If the Swedish Migration Board does not recognise you as being a refugee in accordance with the 1951 Convention or considers that you do not meet the requirements of the 1954 Convention, we will refuse your application for a travel document. You can appeal against the decision to a Migration Court.

The appeal must be received by the Swedish Migration Board within 3 weeks calculated from the date on which you were notified of the decision. If the Migration Board does not change the decision the way you want, we will submit your appeal to the Migration Court in Stockholm, Göteborg or Malmö. Which court will hear your appeal depends on which of the Migration Board's permit units initially rejected your application

How it is done

  • Write which decision you want to appeal and how you want it changed.
  • Write your name, personal number or time of birth, address and phone number.
  • Sign the letter with your name.
  • Send the appeal to the unit who made the decision in your case.

Power of attorney

If you have given power of attorney (and thus the right to represent you) to someone in Sweden, that person can write and submit the appeal for you.
