Residence permit – what happens then?

Residence permit means that you have had your application for asylum approved. You can stay in Sweden.

What happens if we get a residence permit?

You and your custodian will be called to a meeting with the staff at the Reception Unit. At the meeting you will find out why you have been granted a residence permit. You will receive a certificate that shows that you have received a residence permit.

A permanent residence permit means that you have the right to stay in Sweden for as long as you want. In some cases the Swedish Migration Board can grant a residence permit that is valid for a certain period of time, for example a year.

What should my custodian and I do when I have received a residence permit?

You and your custodian will visit the Swedish Tax Agency for registration. This means that you will receive a personal code number with the last four digits.

One month after you have received a residence permit you will be discharged from the Swedish Migration Board. Then you will no longer receive a daily allowance and your bank card will not work any more. If you need the money on the card it is important that you withdraw it before you are discharged from the Swedish Migration Board. Your asylum case is then closed. The municipality where you live takes over full responsibility for you from this point.
