EMN

The Swedish Migration Board is the Swedish national contact point (NCP) for the European Migration Network (EMN). The network currently consists of 27 national contact points, i.e. all EU member states plus Norway. Denmark, in accordance with the exceptions they have in the policy area, participates only as an observer.
The EMN was established in order to address the need to exchange information on all aspects of migration and to contribute to a common asylum and immigration policy. It was first launched as a pilot project in 2003. Council Decision 2008/381/EC, establishing a legal basis for the EMN, was adopted on 14 May 2008.

The objective of the EMN is to meet the information needs of Union institutions and of Member States' authorities and institutions by providing up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information on migration and asylum, with a view to supporting policymaking in the European Union in these areas. The EMN also serves to provide the general public with such information.

The EMN responds to information needs through specific reports, studies and ad-hoc queries. The EMN also has the task of establishing a multi-level network to aid its activities. On the European level, EMN NCP's meet regularly, as well as networking and collaborating with other European level institutions and organisations. At national level, each EMN NCP develops a network involving partners within their Member State with expertise in migration and asylum from a wide range of stakeholders in order to have a cross-section of views and information, e.g. from Member State governments, (academic) research community and NGO's.
