How to apply for an extension of your permit

You can choose whether to send in your application for an extension by mail or to submit it in person.

Your application must consist of the following:


 
  • The form Application for residence permit to settle in Sweden, No. 161011. For children under 18, you must use the form Application for residence permit to settle in Sweden - for a child under the age of 18, No. 163011.
  • The form Family details - Appendix to your application Form No 239011. The forms can be printed out from our website or ordered through our customer service at 0771-235 235.
  • A family certificate, which is a form of birth certificate. You can order one from www.skatteverket.se.external link, opens in new window If you are married, or in a registered partnership, it will be enough to submit a family certificate in your name. If you are living together, submit one for both you and your live-in partner.
  • A copy of your passport, where your identity and the period of validity are indicated. You must have a valid passport in order for the Migration Board to be able to grant you a permit. If your passport is about to expire, you must apply for a new one in your home country or at your home country´s embassy.
  • Receipt showing payment of application fees. If you pay through the internet, you can print out the proof of payment and send it in. It is important that you indicate the first and last names, as well as the ID number, of the person the application fee applies to in the “Message to payee" or corresponding field. If the fee applies to several people, indicate the ID numbers for all of them. The fee is 1,500 SEK (750 SEK for children) and is payable to bank giro account number 5223-6965. If you submit your application in person at any of our Permit Units, you can pay the application fee there. Other routines apply in Solna.
  • If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you must also fill in EU/EEA appendix B — Extension, No. 225021. You will not need to pay an application fee.
