Study in Sweden - Swiss citizens
As a Swiss citizen you may study in Sweden. The same applies to your family members.
On entering Sweden you need a valid passport proving your citizenship. Applying for a residence permit
You apply by using the form Residence permit for citizens of Switzerland and their family members, no. 146011. You can choose to submit your application in person to one of the Migration Board´s Permit Units or send it in by post. Note that the Permit Unit in Solna has other routines.Those who receive a residence permit will be given a residence permit card. The card is proof of your residence permit.
In order for the Migration Board to be able to issue a residence permit card, you will be photographed and will need to submit fingerprints in connection with:
- submitting your application or
- when you receive your residence permit.
Documents you need to enclose
When you apply for a residence permit you must enclose a copy of your passport proving your citizenship. You must also enclose:- proof of admission to a course programme which is at least at upper secondary school level
- assurance that you have sufficient funds for your support
- proof that you have comprehensive health insurance that is valid in Sweden.
Family members applying for residence permit
The following family members can obtain residence permits:- husband/wife or common law spouse
- children under the age of 21 or older children who are dependent on their parents for their support
- parents who are financially dependent on children who live in Sweden.
Your family member apply by using the form Residence permit for citizens of Switzerland and their family members, no. 146011. As a family member you need to enclose:
- marriage certificate (husband/wife)
- a civil registration certificate, lease agreement or proof of purchase of a residence (common law spouses)
- a birth certificate (children)
- a civil registration certificate from the country of origin or a bank statement showing receipt of regular financial support from the child/parent (children over 21 and parents).
Application fee
You do not need to pay a fee.You may work
You may work over the same period as the residence permit. You do not need a special work permit. The same applies to your family members.After decision
The decision will be sent to your address in Sweden.
