How long you can stay with your entry visa

It is important to check what is applicable to your entry visa. If you stay too long in the Schengen area by mistake, it can be difficult to extend your trip here, since you have stayed here illegally.
You are given an entry visa for a certain number of days, but you can often make use of them over a longer period. When you enter the Schengen area, your passport will be stamped with the date of entry. Even if the period of time on the entry visa is longer, you may not stay for more time than you have been granted. The time is counted from the day you enter the Schengen area. You may stay for as many days as you have been granted within the time period indicated.

If you want to extend your visit, you must submit an application for this by the last day you have the right to stay in the Schengen area at the latest.

Example: If you enter on March 19, you must leave the Schengen area by May 17 at the latest. If you enter on April 1, you can stay until May 30. If you enter on April 15, you must leave the Schengen area by June 1 at the latest, even if you were not here for 60 days.
