International cooperation by the Swedish Migration Board

The Swedish Migration Board actively participates in EU activities and works in close collaboration with many international organisations such as the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The Board also participates in several different international networks.
In accordance with its vision, the Migration Board shall be a leading player within the EU and internationally. Practical cooperation within the EU shall be a natural part of everyday operations, with respect to both asylum and migration issues. The Board's work shall also contribute to increased awareness of the link between migration and development.

EU cooperation plays a significant part in the Migration Board's day-to-day operations because it affects issues such as the asylum process, the granting of visas, family immigration and labour immigration. In addition to ongoing work within the EU, the Migration Board also works closely with many international organisations and participates in several networks.

Important partner organisations include UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Intergovernmental Consultations on Migration, Asylum and Refugees (IGC) and General Directors' Immigration Services Conference (GDISC).

The Migration Board's international strategy document describes its EU cooperation and international development cooperation. It also lays out the Board's strategic priorities within this international cooperation.
