If you are applying for a residence permit on the web you will receive instructions on how to fill out the application and submitting all the information and attachments. In most cases the processing time will also be shorter. The Swedish Migration Boards aims to answer all online applications with 3 months. Who can apply on the web?
If you are 18 or older and have a valid passport, you can apply if you: - have a wife, husband, registered partner or co-habitee who lives in Sweden or
- plan to marry or become a co-habitee with a person who lives in Sweden or
- have another close realtive in Sweden whom you are dependent on.
Please note that your family member whom you wish to move to must be over the age of 18, and must be a Swedish citizen or have a permanent residence permit in Sweden.
If you do not meet the requirements for online application, you must submit your application via a Swedish mission abroad (embassy or consulate-general) in the country where you live. Read about how to do that under Applying for a permit.
You must submit your application whilst in your country of origin or in an other country where you are residing legally. You may not stay in Sweden while the Migration Board is processing your application. After submitting your online application you must visit a Swedish mission abroad in order to be interviewed and to show your original documents. Please note that you must visit a Swedish mission abroad in your country of origin or in another country where you are residing legally.
