Tuition fees at universities and colleges
Beginning with the Autumn 2011 term, Sweden has introduced fees for university and college studies.
The fees vary based on the course and are decided on by the respective universities or colleges (institutions). You must contact the institution where you plan to study directly to get information on tuition fees. If you must pay tuition fees
If you are obligated to pay tuition fees, a portion of the fees must be paid in advance (partial fee) to the institution. The university or university college determines how much you must pay. In order to get your residence permit and enter Sweden in time to start your studies, the Migration Board recommends that you pay that portion of the fee that must be paid in advance as soon as possible. If you are beginning your studies in the autum 2012 term, the payment should be made no later than June 15, 2012. If you are beginning your studies in the spring 2013 term, the payment should be made no later than December 15, 2012. Applying for a residence permit
You can submit an application for a residence permit before the partial fee is paid. Note that you cannot obtain a residence permit before the payment is made. For more information on what is required to obtain a residence permit and how to apply, see the headings in the left menu.
