Asylum Seeker Card
When you apply for asylum in Sweden, you are given a receipt. A few days later, you will receive a card called LMA-kort or the Asylum Seeker Card. The card shows that you are an asylum seeker and that you have the right to stay in the country whilst you are waiting for the reply. If you show your card when visiting a health-care centre, the fee you have to pay will be smaller.Even though the LMA card has the same format and, to some extent, the same contents as an identity card (ID), it is not an ID card. It simply confirms that you have been registered in the Migration Board's reception system under the name stated on the card.
You must give your card back if you receive a residence permit or if you have to leave Sweden.
