How to register

If you are an EU citizen, you must be able to support yourself in order to have right of residence in Sweden. You must enclose documents proving that you meet the maintenance requirements when you register your right of residence with the Migration Board.

Register your right of residence

You need to register your right of residence no later than three months after arriving in Sweden.

If you are an employee you register your right of residence online. If you have a family that accompanies you to Sweden you can apply for them at the same time as you apply online for yourself. If you cannot register online, you can instead fill out the form Registration of right of residence, no. 141011 and send it in or submit it at one of the Migration Board's Permit Units. In this case your family will have to submit their own applications.

If you are self-employed you register your right of residence by filling out the form Registration of right of residence, no. 141011 and sending it in or submitting it at one of the Migration Board's Permit Units. If you have a family that accompanies you to Sweden they will have to submit their own applications

There is no fee for registering right of residence.

Faster decision if you have submitted complete information

The Migration first handles cases for which complete information and all necessary documents have been submitted. In other words, you will receive a faster decision if you send everything we need at the beginning than if you add information afterwards. Make sure that all copies are clear and legible.

Keep in mind that the Migration Board might have to investigate your case further even if you submit all the information and documents that we have asked for.

Read more about the decision on registration of your right of residence under the After the decision has been made heading.
