Information for Pakistani citizens regarding migration matters

The Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad is currently unable to receive external visitors. The migration section is therefore unable to handle cases that require a visit to the embassy.

This means that migration activities at the embassy cannot be carried out because no investigations or other measures in residence permit matters can be carried out. It is currently not known when the migration operations will be able to receive external visitors again.

Due to the limitation in the activities of the migration section, a temporary redirection of applications from Pakistani citizens is taking place as follows:

Citizens of Pakistan and persons residing in Pakistan who have been instructed by the Swedish Migration Agency to book an appointment for an interview, biometrics or passport check in applications for a residence permit due to family ties, studies or work are referred to the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This also applies if you want to apply for a visitor’s permit to visit Sweden for more than 90 days.

It is not possible to submit an application for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden at the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa.

Additional options are also being investigated, information about this will be published when it is ready.

Schengen visa appli­ca­tions to visit Sweden

Citizens and residents in Pakistan who want to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden are, from 19 June, referred to hand in their application at VFS Global in Bangkok, Yangon, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, Cebu, Jakarta, Bali, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to choose where to hand in the application and to arrange for a visa in the chosen location, if required by that country. The Embassy of Sweden will not be able to assist or give information in any matters of entry permit or visa to the country the applicant chooses. After an application has been submitted to VFS Global, it is sent together with the passport to the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok for processing and decision.

Note that applications cannot be submitted at VFS Global before 19 June.

The Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad is closed for external visitors.

Citizens of Pakistan and persons residing in Pakistan who wish to submit an application for a residence permit in Sweden but don’t wish to use online application may contact the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa to make an appointment to submit the application.

Citizens of Pakistan and persons residing in Pakistan who have been instructed by the Swedish Migration Agency to book an appointment for an interview, biometrics or passport check in applications for a residence permit due to family ties, studies or work are referred to the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Residence permit cards cannot be sent to the Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad or to a postal address in Pakistan.

If you wish for your residence permit card to be sent to the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden and picked up by a person to whom you give a power of attorney, such as a family member, this has to be clearly stated at the visit at the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, before you give your finger prints/biometrics.

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Pakistan and have applied for a residence permit in Sweden due to family ties, studies or work and have been asked to make an appointment at a Swedish embassy for an interview, to provide biometrics or to show your original passport then you are referred to the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

If you want to withdraw your application for a residence permit, you need to contact the Swedish Migration Agency.

It is not necessary to contact the Swedish Migration Agency or the Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad to have your case moved in case you have previously been instructed to book an appointment there. You need to contact the Embassy in Addis Ababa to make an appointment for the visit.

It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to arrange for an entry visa, if required by Ethiopia. The Embassy of Sweden will not be able to assist or give information in any matters regarding entry in Ethiopia.

Since waiting time for example an interview can change quickly, you are advised to not book any tickets before having received a confirmed appointment from the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa.
