Public counsel

A public counsel is a person who knows Swedish laws. He or she will help you with your asylum application. A public counsel is a lawyer or solicitor. Until you get a guardian the public counsel will act as your guardian.

What does the public counsel do?

A public counsel will help you with your asylum case and accompany you when you meet the Migration Agency to tell them your reasons for asylum. When the Migration Agency has decided that you will have a counsel you won't have to pay for one.
