Exceptions can be made to the requirement for full-time studies during the summer months
In certain cases, the Swedish Migration Agency can now make exceptions to the requirement for full-time studies during the summer months.
A requirement to be able to grant a permit for applicants for a residence permit for study in Sweden is that you will be studying full-time. This also applies during the summer.
If you have previously been granted a residence permit for study on a specific course, but now you intend to start studying a new course or programme in the autumn, you could be exempt from the above requirements. This may also be the case if you have not completed your studies yet and are now applying to extend your residence permit. An exception to the requirement for full-time studies can be made for the 2020 summer months, due to the ongoing pandemic potentially posing difficulties and uncertainty regarding travel. As long as the other conditions are met, an extended residence permit may be granted.
Please note that the exemption from the requirement for full-time studies only applies during the summer months. You must still study full-time during the autumn semester 2020 or the 20/21 academic year.
