Changes in the maintenance requirement for students

As of 1 March, the maintenance requirement for you who have access to free housing and/or food during your studies will be lowered.

A student who has access to free housing and/or food during their studies has a lower maintenance requirement than a student who is responsible for the cost of their own housing and food. The Swedish Migration Agency has now further lowered the maintenance requirement for you who receive free housing and/or food through the organiser of the education or through an organisation that works for international exchange.

For applications received by the Swedish Migration Agency on or after 1 January 2023, the basic maintenance requirement remains the same as before - SEK 9,450 per month.

From 1 March, the monthly amount can be reduced by SEK 2,625 if the student is receiving free food. If they are receiving free housing, the monthly amount can be reduced by SEK 4,200.

Previously, a reduction in the monthly amount of SEK 1,837.50 could be made for free food and SEK 1,837.50 for free housing.

The change in the maintenance requirement applies to all types of studies.
