This applies if you are an asylum seeker who has previously had a work permit and you are now applying for a new one

If you have previously had a work permit and subsequently applied for asylum in Sweden, then you cannot be granted a work permit from within the country again. The Migration Court of Appeal decided this in a judgement (MIG 2020:05).

If you have applied for asylum in Sweden, but have previously had a work permit here, you cannot be granted a new work permit from within the country if, for example, you are denied asylum.

The requirement to obtain a work permit is that you must have been granted the permit before entry into Sweden. In some cases, persons who have applied for asylum may be granted a work permit even though they are still in the country. This only applies if you have established yourself in the labour market during your time as an asylum seeker. If you already had a work permit before submitting an asylum application, this means that you have already established yourself in the labour market. In this case, you cannot be granted a work permit from within the country.
