You can only check one passport at a time with the Freja app. We recommend that you use a separate mobile phone or tablet for each passport you want to share. If you do not have a separate device for each person, you have two options:

You can borrow a mobile phone. You need to have access to the mobile phone until Freja has verified the identity of your co-applicant(s) and that you have shared your passport information with the Swedish Migration Agency. Once you are finished, you can delete the Freja app from the phone you borrowed. No passport information will be stored on the phone.

You can use the same phone to check multiple passports. To do this, you will need to delete the app and start over after sharing each passport.

It may take up to 24 hours for Freja to confirm that your identity has been verified. Only after this can you share your passport information with the Swedish Migration Agency. The link you receive in the email will work for 7 days. This means that if you know that you want to use the same device to check multiple passports, you should start the process as soon as possible.

Using the Freja app to share your passport with the Swedish Migration Agency is a first step in creating a full e-ID in Freja on which other Swedish authorities can rely.

To create a full e-ID in Freja, you need to register with the Swedish Tax Agency and apply for a personal identity number or coordination number. Once you have received a residence permit and set a date for your move to Sweden, you can use the Freja app to notify the Swedish Tax Agency of your move, and thus start your application for a personal identity number or coordination number.

Freja eID is a secure e-identification solution approved by the Swedish authorities. Freja will not share your passport information without your consent.

If Freja is unable to verify your identity, you may need to have your passport checked in person.

Use your personal link to the Digital Passport Check e-service to let us know that you cannot provide your passport information, so that we can process your application as soon as possible.

We will contact you if you need to book an appointment to have your passport checked at a Swedish embassy or Swedish Migration Agency Service Centre.

As we continue to evaluate and improve the e-service, we will gradually include more countries.

You can be offered the option of using the digital passport control e-service for your co-applicant children under the age of five as well. Children do not need to have their own app. Instead, you will receive an offer to add their passport to your own app when you share your passport information in the e-service.

Since the Swedish Migration Agency does not require identity checks of co-applicant children under the age of five, but only wants to see that a child has a valid passport, it is enough to simply scan the child’s passport in your app. This means that you do not need to photograph the child and wait for Freja to verify the child’s identity.

If a child has reached the age of five by the time you are asked to share their passport information with the Swedish Migration Agency, the child will need their own Freja app. You can see in the Digital Passport Check e-service which children can be added to their parent’s app.

The Digital Passport Check e-service should include a list of all passports included in your application, even those that cannot be checked digitally. However, there are some exceptions; at the moment, the automated system cannot identify alien’s passports or diplomatic passports.

If any of your family members have such a passport, they will not be included in the e-service, and the passport cannot be checked digitally. That person will be informed that they must present their passport in person. The other applicants are welcome to use the e-service to share their passport information digitally.

The digital passport control replaces the need to visit a Swedish embassy to present your passport in person.

It therefore mainly improves the digital application process for visa-exempt employees and students. Other applicants will still need to visit the embassy to obtain their residence permit cards or to conduct an interview, and they can then present their passports in person at the same time.
