The trainee/intern wants to extend their permit
In order for the trainee/intern to continue their traineeship/internship with you in Sweden, they need to extend their permit.
Make sure that the trainee/intern has a traineeship/internship agreement signed by both you and them.

You start the application for an extended permit
As the employer, you start your part of the application by providing information about the employment in the e-service.

The trainee/intern fills in their part of the application
The trainee/intern receives a link to the e-service and fills in their part of the application. They attach the required documents and complete the application. It is important that the trainee/intern submits the extension application before their current permit expires. That way, they will have the right to stay in Sweden until the Swedish Migration Agency makes a decision, even if their current permit expires.

The application is registered with the Swedish Migration Agency
The application is not registered until the employee has completed their part of it.

Waiting time before we start examining the application
Now follows a period of waiting until the Swedish Migration Agency takes a closer look at the application.

The Swedish Migration Agency reviews the application
The Swedish Migration Agency reviews the application. If we can immediately see that the trainee/intern does not meet the requirements for an extended permit, we may already make a decision to reject their application. We will contact the trainee/intern if we need more information.

The Swedish Migration Agency processes the application
Once the trainee/intern has presented their passport, the Swedish Migration Agency will review all the information related to their application and determine whether they can be granted an extended permit. We will contact you or the trainee/intern if we need more information.

You will be notified when the decision is ready
Once the Swedish Migration Agency has made a decision, the employer will be notified by post. The employee will be notified by email or post.
