Strengthened requirements for good conduct and honesty

From 13 July, stricter requirements on good conduct (vandel) apply to residence permits. The new rules give the Swedish Migration Agency increased powers to refuse applications or revoke residence permits due to a lack of good conduct.

Several legislative changes in the field of migration from 12 July

On 12 July, adjustments to Swedish regulations in line with the EU Migration and Asylum Pact will enter into force. In addition, the possibility of obtaining a permanent residence permit for people with asylum-related residence permits will be removed. The legislative changes are based on the Government’s proposal on the phasing out of permanent residence permits and the adaptation of Swedish law to the EU Migration and Asylum Pact (Government Bill 2025/26:262).

The Swedish Migration Agency introduces a new logo featuring a heraldic coat of arms

The Swedish Migration Agency is introducing a new logo featuring a heraldic coat of arms. The purpose is to more clearly reflect the Agency's role as Sweden's migration authority and as part of the Swedish state. At the same time, the change marks a new phase in the Agency's mission and its European cooperation under the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. The rollout of the new logo will begin on 1 September and will take place gradually.
