Has long-term resident status in Sweden
The person has the right to work in Sweden. Valid proof is the residence permit card or the decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
Has applied for long-term resident status in Sweden and is waiting for a decision
The person has the right to work if they previously had a residence and work permit for at least six months and applied for long-term resident status before the previous permit expired. If the person receives an expulsion decision, they may work until the expulsion decision acquires legal force.
If the person applied for long-term resident status after the previous permit expired, they do not have the right to work during the waiting period.
Has or has applied for a residence card in Sweden
The person has the right to work as long as the family member, who is an EU/EEA citizen, has right of residence in Sweden. Valid proof is a document confirming the application or the decision from the Swedish Migration Agency, along with other documents showing the family relationship.
Has a permanent residence card in Sweden
The person has the right to work in Sweden. Valid proof is the residence card or the decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
Is a family member of a Swiss citizen
The person has the right to work in Sweden. Valid proof for this is documents showing the family relationship. If the stay in Sweden exceeds three months, the person needs to apply for a residence permit. Valid proof is then the residence permit card or the decision from the Swedish Migration Agency, or documents showing that they have applied for a residence permit.
Has or has applied for residence status/permanent residence status in Sweden
The person has the right to work in Sweden. Valid proof is the letter from the Swedish Migration Agency confirming the application, the residence status card, or the decision from the Swedish Migration Agency.
Has long-term resident status in another EU country or is a family member of such a person
A person with long-term resident status in another EU country has the right to work in Sweden. Valid proof is a valid EC/EU residence permit card for long-term residents from the other EU country. If the stay in Sweden exceeds three months, the person needs to apply for a residence permit.
Employ a person with long-term resident status in another EU country
The following family members have the right to work during their stay in Sweden: spouse, cohabiting partner, children under 21, or children who are dependent on the person with long-term resident status for their support. If the long-term resident no longer has their status in the other EU country because they have obtained long-term resident status in Sweden, but the family member's residence permit is still valid, the family member may continue to work until the permit expires. Valid proof is the residence permit card.
Has had their asylum application rejected
The person only has the right to work during the period granted for leaving the country according to the decision, if they have a valid exemption from the work permit requirement (AT-UND). Valid proof is the LMA card.
Has had their residence permit application rejected (not asylum)
If the person received an expulsion decision along with the rejection of their application, and they previously had the right to work, they can continue to work until the expulsion decision acquires legal force (comes into effect).
If the person already had a valid expulsion decision, they do not have the right to work. The right to work ceases immediately when the Swedish Migration Agency makes the decision to reject the application.
Has had their residence permit revoked
The person does not have the right to work in Sweden after the revocation decision has acquired legal force (come into effect).
Has a residence permit and work for a company in another EU country
If the person is to work temporarily in Sweden in connection with a contract for the company they are employed by in the other EU country, where they have the right to reside and work, they have the right to work in Sweden without applying for a permit for up to 90 days. After that, the person needs to apply for a residence permit.
The person is exempt from the work permit requirement for the duration of the contract work.
