The Swedish Migration Agency can now be found at more locations around the country

The National Government Service Centre and the Swedish Migration Agency are expanding their collaboration on services for in-person visits. After the end of this year, the Swedish Migration Agency's service centres will close for drop-in visits. For several of the services that were provided at the Swedish Migration Agency's service centres, visitors will instead be referred to other channels.

The Swedish Migration Agency's service centres in Boden, Gothenburg, Malmö, Norrköping, Stockholm/Sundbyberg, Uppsala, Växjö, Västerås, Umeå, Sundsvall and Örebro will gradually close until the end of the year. The Swedish Migration Agency's services will instead be offered by telephone, digital services and at 35 of the National Government Service Centres around the country – including at most of the locations where the Swedish Migration Agency's service centres are now closing.

– Parts of our activities will remain at several of the locations where we are already present today, but with the difference that it will be via a service centre – we are going from being present at 11 locations to 35, says Sara Åhman, Director of the National Operations Department.

More authorities under one roof

The service centres offer services from the Swedish Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Pensions Agency and the Swedish Tax Agency. Since 2021, several service centres have been offering services from the Swedish Migration Agency in the form of general information and support for self-service through digital services.

– We are bringing more of the major authorities together under one roof at the National Government Service Centres. Those who need to use the Swedish Migration Agency's services often visit our service centres for help with matters involving our other partner authorities, says Paul Larsson, Citizen Services Division at the National Government Service Centre.

Visitors will, when being asked to by the Swedish Migration Agency, be able to book appointments to be fingerprinted and photographed and have their identity documents checked for the purpose of extending their residence permits or in connection with applications for travel documents or alien's passports.

Contact the Swedish Migration Agency

During a transition period, until the end of the year, it is possible to book an appointment at both a service centre and the Swedish Migration Agency's service centre. After the end of the year, visitors should visit the Swedish Migration Agency only if they have been summoned for a personal visit.

– If you are summoned for a personal visit, it is therefore important to read the summons to find out which service centre you should go to, says Sara Åhman.

The National Government Service Centre cannot help with questions relating to individual cases, but you are welcome to contact the Swedish Migration Agency by telephone or via My page. On My page, you can also view your application and use digital services.

The change does not affect you if you are applying for asylum or have questions related to your asylum application.
