Suspension of enforcement

A recommendation to suspend enforcement may be issued when the security situation in a country changes rapidly and there is not enough information available about the situation. The suspension applies for a limited period of time while the Swedish Migration Agency gathers up-to-date information about the political and security situation in the country.

You may still return voluntarily to your country of origin. A suspension of enforcement does not prevent voluntary return.

The recommendation may apply to everyone who has received a decision on refusal of entry, expulsion, or return to the country concerned, or it may apply only to a specific group. It may apply regardless of whether you have applied for international protection (asylum), a work permit, or another type of permit. The recommendation applies when the Swedish Migration Agency is responsible for carrying out (enforcing) the decision.

If the Swedish Police Authority is responsible for enforcement, the Swedish Migration Agency's recommendation does not apply in the same way, as the Police Authority is not required to follow it.

Decisions are not reconsidered

A suspension of enforcement does not mean that you are granted a residence permit in Sweden.
If you have a valid decision on refusal of entry, expulsion, or return, that decision remains in force. The suspension does not mean that the Swedish Migration Agency will automatically reconsider your previous application. It only means that, during the suspension, we will not enforce the decision requiring you to leave Sweden.

If your application for international protection (asylum) has been rejected

If you have applied for international protection and your application has been rejected by the Swedish Migration Agency or a court, you may, in certain circumstances, remain eligible for financial aid, accommodation, and the right to work while enforcement is suspended.
