If you need to apply for a visa, you can now do so in Islamabad
As of 7 July, you can apply for a Schengen visa in Pakistan for short visits to Sweden by submitting your application in Islamabad.
You have applied for a visitor’s residence permit, or for an extension of your permit, and are waiting for a decision.
What you should do once you have submitted your application depends on how you submitted it and whether you applied from outside or inside Sweden.
By logging in to My Page, you can access information about your application and use our services.
If you applied in the e-service, you must visit an embassy or consulate-general to be interviewed and present your passport. You were asked to book an appointment for this visit when you applied. If there are several of you who applied together, everyone must come along for the visit.
If you applied during a visit to an embassy, you presented your passport and were interviewed when you submitted the application.
If you need an entry visa to travel to Sweden and are granted a residence permit, you need a residence permit card before you travel. You must therefore be fingerprinted and photographed during your visit.

If you do not need an entry visa to travel to Sweden, you can travel without a residence permit card. If you are granted a residence permit, you must instead submit documentation for a residence permit card at one of the Swedish Migration Agency’s service centres after you have arrived in Sweden.
You must visit the Swedish Migration Agency to be interviewed and present your passport. During this visit, you will also be fingerprinted and photographed. If there are several of you who applied together, everyone must come along for the visit.
If you applied in the e-service, you were also asked to book an appointment for this visit.
If you submitted your application on a paper form, you need to book an appointment for the visit yourself. In order to book an appointment, you must first have received an acknowledgement of receipt from the Swedish Migration Agency. The receipt and instructions on how to book an appointment will be sent to the Swedish address you provided.
If something is missing from your application or if we need more information, we will contact you.
Depending on where and how you applied, you will receive the decision in different ways.
The embassy will contact you or your representative to inform you of the decision. In certain cases, you need to book an appointment at the embassy to pick it up.
When you receive the decision, you can find out the reasons on which we based it. If your application is rejected, information on what to do if you want to appeal is provided.
If you applied for a residence permit from inside Sweden, the decision will be sent to the Swedish address you provided in your application. If you have given somebody a power of attorney to represent you, the decision will be sent to that person.

In the message or letter, you must tell us that you want to withdraw your application. If you leave Sweden after your visa, visa-free period or residence permit has expired, we recommend that you take your receipt for the application with you when you leave. The border police are responsible for border controls in and out of to Sweden. Neither the Swedish Migration Agency nor the Border police can give an advance decision on whether you will be allowed to travel back to Sweden. This decision is made directly at the border control.
If you leave Sweden after your Schengen visa, visa-free period, or residence permit has expired, we recommend that you take the acknowledgement of receipt of your application with you. This is to show the border police that you have applied for a residence permit and have not been staying illegally in Sweden. It is the border police that are responsible for the border control of people entering and exiting Sweden.
If you are visa-free or have a valid Schengen visa, you can enter Sweden before you have received a decision. In that case, it is important that you notify the Swedish Migration Agency that you are in Sweden.
If you have new information that may affect your application, for example if you have changed address or extended your travel insurance, you should contact the Swedish Migration Agency.
You can submit this new information at the embassy or consulate-general where you submitted your application. If you are in Sweden, you can instead visit one of the Swedish Migration Agency’s service centres or send the information by post to:
Migrationsverket
Box 3100

If you made a mistake when paying an application fee – for example, if you accidentally paid the fee twice – you can get a refund. Contact the Swedish Migration Agency to ask for your money back. If you submitted your application at an embassy or consulate-general, you should contact them instead.
When requesting a refund of a fee, you will need to provide the following information.
