Your application or notification to become a Swedish citizen has been approved.
Once you have become a Swedish citizen, you will receive a citizenship certificate. The Swedish Migration Agency informs the Swedish Tax Agency that you have become a Swedish citizen.
Your residence permit card is blocked
When you become a Swedish citizen, your residence permit card is automatically blocked, which means that you can no longer use it to show that you have the right to be in Sweden.
Swedish passport
Swedish citizens are not required to have a Swedish passport or ID card. If you need a Swedish passport, you can apply for one from the police.
Once you have been released from your Swedish citizenship, we will inform the Swedish Tax Agency that you are no longer a Swedish citizen. If you are going to continue living in Sweden, you will need a valid permit.
On 1 January, the Swedish Migration Agency’s service centre will close for drop-in visits. If you have any questions about your case, please contact the Swedish Migration Agency by telephone or via My page. For guidance and assistance with your application, or with using the Swedish Migration Agency’s digital services, please visit the National Government Service Centre.
