Requirements for applying in the e-service

To apply in the e-service, you must

  • be 18 years or older
  • have a valid email address
  • be able to pay the application fee with a payment card issued by Visa or Mastercard
  • be able to scan or photograph the documents you need to attach.

Adults: SEK 1,500
Children: SEK 750

The following people pay no fee to apply:

  • family members of EU/EEA citizens. In this context, Swedes do not count as EU citizens
  • EU/EEA citizens who are applying for a residence permit
  • Swiss citizens and their family members
  • Japanese citizens
  • people who are in Sweden and who are unable to return home due to an extraordinary event (this applies to you who state extraordinary event as the only reason for application).

You will not receive a refund if your application is rejected.

If you are currently outside Sweden, you must submit your application at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general.

Fill in the application

Fill in the form:

You must fill in one application per person.

If you are going to work as a European Solidarity Corps volunteer, you should instead fill in the form:

Submit the application

You must submit your application at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in the country where you live. You will also be interviewed during this visit. Remember to bring the documents you need to attach to your application. Any children who are applying must come with you.

You pay the application fee when you submit your application.

If you are in Sweden, you must submit your application by post.

Enclose the application in an envelope marked with the words: “Ansökan om uppehållstillstånd för besök” [Application for a visitor’s residence permit].

You will need to visit the Swedish Migration Agency to complete your application. You will receive information on how to book an appointment for the visit when the Swedish Migration Agency has received your application.

In the box Message to payment recipient you write

  • application residence permit visit
  • first name and last name of the person the application fee concerns
  • first name and last name for everyone if you are paying a fee for several people at the same time.
