You want to apply Berry pickers

You want to apply for a work permit because you have found employment as a berry picker in Sweden.

You can no longer apply for a work permit as a berry picker (forest berry picker, SSYK 2012, subgroup 9210) if your employer is not established in Sweden. This is because this type of work permit is now included in the list of occupations that are not eligible for work permits.

Occupations that cannot qualify for a work permit

Since 1 June 2026, it has not been possible to obtain a work permit to work as a forest berry picker (subgroup 9210 in SSYK 2012 – however, it is still possible to obtain a permit for other types of berry picking within the same subgroup). It is also not possible to obtain a work permit as a personal assistant (subgroup 5343, SSYK 2012).

If, however, you are going to work as a berry picker for an employer established in Sweden, you may apply for a seasonal work permit.

More Afghans may be able to receive passports from their home country

The Swedish Migration Agency estimates that Afghan authorities are now able to issue national passports to their citizens within a reasonable time. This means that Afghan citizens with a residence permit in Sweden no longer automatically have the right to an alien’s passport.
