Apply
All requirements must be met when you apply
In order for your application to be considered complete, you may need to submit documents showing that you meet the requirements for an extended permit. The documents you must submit depend on why you want to stay in Sweden.
Read more about which documents you must attach under the “Important to know” tab
To apply in the e-service, you must
- have an e-ID
- have a valid email address
- be able to upload your documents digitally.
If you are applying for your child who is under 18 years of age
You apply for your child in the e-service using your e-identification. If you have multiple children, you can submit multiple applications, but keep in mind that you must complete and submit the application for each person before you can log in again to submit a new application for someone else.
If your child has two parents/legal guardians in Sweden, the other parent/legal guardian must give their consent by signing the form:
Confirmation of application for residence permit for child (207011) Pdf, 1.1 MB.
Attach the form in the e-service when you submit the child’s application. You must fill in and upload one form for each child.
Can I attach documents later?
If you need to attach documents, you can do so in the e-service when you apply. If you submit the application without uploading the required documents for the application, you must send the missing documents to the Swedish Migration Agency by post within two weeks.
When we examine your application, we will make a decision based on the information we have received.

Can children without a parent/legal guardian apply in the e-service?
Yes, children without a parent/legal guardian in Sweden can apply for themselves in the e-service if they have an e-ID. The Swedish Migration Agency will then contact the child’s guardian or specially appointed legal guardian to have the application confirmed. If the child does not have an e-ID, their guardian can submit an application for the child by post.
Can a representative submit an application in the e-service on my behalf?
No, a representative cannot use the e-service to apply for you. Anyone applying for a residence permit must log in with their own e-identification. Parents/legal guardians can log in using their e-ID(s) and apply for a residence permit extension for their child(ren) who are under the age of 18.
If a representative is assisting you with your application, you must submit the application by post and attach a written power of attorney.
If you cannot apply in the e-service
If you cannot apply in the e-service, fill in the form:
Application for an extension of a residence permit (201011) Pdf, 731.4 kB.
Each family member, including children, must fill in their own application form. Parents/legal guardians should fill in the form for their child, but keep in mind that the questions are then addressed to the child themselves.
Remember to sign your form. Parents/legal guardians sign their children's forms. If the child has two parents/legal guardians, both must sign.
