People applying for citizenship will receive a letter about visiting the Swedish Migration Agency

If you are applying for Swedish citizenship, you will be called to a personal visit to the Swedish Migration Agency to verify your identity. You will receive a letter from us when it is your turn to book a visit.

The Swedish Migration Agency is now starting to send out letters to those of you who are applying for Swedish citizenship. When you have received the letter, you should book a personal visit with us to verify your identity. This is called a “personal appearance”. The requirement for a personal appearance applies to both those who are applying for Swedish citizenship now and those who have already applied and are waiting for a decision.

What do you need to do?

You will receive a letter from the Swedish Migration Agency. Read it carefully and follow the instructions. The letter will tell you what you need to consider, what documents are required and how to book an appointment for the identity check.

Please note that you can only book an appointment after you have received your letter.

Why does the Swedish Migration Agency carry out identity checks?

Identity checks are an important part of the Swedish Migration Agency’s work to improve security in cases concerning Swedish citizenship.

The purpose is to ensure that people applying for citizenship are the same person as in the identity document and who is in the Swedish Migration Agency's register. Therefore, the applicant must appear in person at the Swedish Migration Agency for an identity check.
