The embassies in Dar es Salaam, Harare, Maputo and Singapore will stop handling migration cases
As of 15 December, the Swedish embassies in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Harare (Zimbabwe), Maputo (Mozambique) and Singapore (Singapore) will no longer handle migration cases. You must then contact other Swedish embassies.
If you are a citizen of Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique or Singapore, or if you live there legally, you have until now turned to the Swedish embassy in Dar es Salaam, Harare, Maputo and Singapore respectively to apply for a residence or work permit.
From 15 December 2025, you must instead personally visit another embassy to, for example, be interviewed, have your passport checked, or be photographed and fingerprinted:
- If you live in Tanzania you must visit the Swedish embassy in Nairobi (Kenya).
- If you live in Zimbabwe or Mozambique you must visit the Swedish embassy in Lusaka (Zambia) or Pretoria (South Africa).
- If you live in Singapore you must visit the Swedish embassy in Bangkok (Thailand).
To book an appointment or contact an embassy regarding other matters, see contact information at swedenabroad.se External link..
If you have already submitted an application to the embassy in Dar es Salaam, Harare, Maputo or Singapore, and now, for example, have a booked investigation or are waiting to receive your residence permit card, you will be contacted.
Schengen visas for visits
Nothing changes when it comes to applications for Schengen visas for visits to Sweden.
This means that if you live in Mozambique you must, just as before, contact the French embassy in Maputo, both for your application and for questions about Schengen visas.
Information about visas at the French embassy in Maputo External link.
If you live in Tanzania or Zimbabwe and want to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Sweden, you can just as before do that at VFS Global’s office in Dar es Salaam and Harare respectively. Your application and passport will be sent to the Swedish embassy in Nairobi which is responsible for these applications and will make a decision. Passport and decision will then be sent back to VFS Global where you can pick them up.
Citizens of Singapore do not need to apply for a Schengen visa, but if you are a citizen of another country and live in Singapore and want to apply for a Schengen visa, you must, just as before, apply for it at VFS Global’s office in Singapore. Your application will then be processed in Bangkok, and passport and decision will then be sent back to VFS Global where you can pick them up.
Please note that the embassies in Dar es Salaam, Harare and Singapore will not be able to answer questions about Schengen visas. If you have questions, you should instead ask them to the VFS Global’s call centre.
