If you are from Ukraine, you need to reapply for daily allowance

In September, the Swedish Migration Agency will make the final payment of daily allowance under the current law. This payment covers the period from 10 to 30 September. If you do not have money of your own and need daily allowance from 1 October, you must submit a new application. The Swedish Migration Agency will then make a new decision under the new Reception Act.

Apply by 30 September

To receive daily allowance from 1 October, the Swedish Migration Agency must receive your application by 30 September. The Swedish Migration Agency cannot grant daily allowance for any period before we receive your application. This means that if we receive your application after 30 September, you will not receive daily allowance for the days from 1 October until the day we receive your application.

Your right to daily allowance otherwise remains the same

If you have temporary protection under the Temporary Protection Directive, you have the same right to daily allowance as before. You do not need to live at one of the Swedish Migration Agency’s centres to receive daily allowance and a special grant. However, you must meet the conditions that apply to you. Among other things, you must inform the Swedish Migration Agency where you live.

The Swedish Migration Agency can require you to repay money

One change under the new law is that the Swedish Migration Agency can require you to repay daily allowance that has been paid to you incorrectly. For example, this may apply if you have received daily allowance that you were not entitled to because you provided incorrect information.

Your right to work will not change

The new Reception Act introduces new rules on AT-UND (exemption from the work permit requirement). These rules only apply to people who apply for international protection (asylum) and do not affect you if you have temporary protection under the Temporary Protection Directive. You have the same right to work in Sweden as before.

The geographical restriction does not apply to you

Under the new Reception Act, some people will only be allowed to stay within a limited geographical area. This geographical restriction does not apply to you if you have temporary protection under the Temporary Protection Directive.

You can therefore travel and move around in Sweden in the same way as before.

You will receive a document confirming that you are covered by the Reception Act

The Swedish Migration Agency will send you a document confirming that you are covered by the new Reception Act. This document is linked to your residence permit card. You must show the document together with your card when you visit a healthcare provider, dentist, pharmacy or municipality.
