Permanent residence permit

A permanent residence permit has no limited period of validity, but is valid as long as you are a resident in Sweden, and gives you the right to live and work here. In order to be granted a permanent residence permit in Sweden, you must meet special requirements concerning, among other things, livelihood and an orderly life.

In order to qualify for a permanent residence permit, you must have had a residence permit in Sweden for a certain period of time. In most cases you can only apply for a permanent residence permit in connection with an application for an extended residence permit. How long you must have lived in Sweden with a residence permit, how you apply and which documents you must attach, therefore depend on the type of residence permit you have today.

A permanent residence permit can be revoked

If you have a permanent residence permit in Sweden, but are no longer resident here, or have been abroad for a long time for some other reason, the Swedish Migration Agency will revoke your permit. A permanent residence permit may also be revoked if the Swedish Migration Agency receives information that you deliberately lied in your application, or did not tell us something of significance to your permanent residence permit.
