If you have applied for a residence permit

If you are a family member of an EU/EEA citizen or a Nordic citizen and have applied for a residence permit to live with your family member in Sweden, you should instead read the page You are waiting for a decision – Live with someone

If you are an EU/EEA citizen and have applied for a certificate of permanent right of residence, the certificate will be sent to your home by post.

If you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country and have applied for a residence card to live with your family member, you can enter Sweden before you have received a decision.

If you need an entry visa to travel to Sweden, you must apply for it before you travel.

Each family member who is not an EU/EEA citizen needs to submit their own entry visa application. This also applies to children. You submit your application at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general in the country where you live.

A residence card has a photo of you and a chip on which your fingerprints are stored. You must therefore visit the Swedish Migration Agency as soon as possible to be photographed and fingerprinted, if you have not already done so. This also applies if you have applied for a permanent residence card, as the information on the card has not been saved since the last time you submitted it. To visit the Swedish Migration Agency, you must book an appointment first.

The card will be sent by post to your address in Sweden.

If your family member meets the requirements for right of residence, you have the right to start working or studying as soon as you arrive in Sweden, if you are the EU/EEA citizen’s spouse, cohabiting partner, or child under the age of 21. You do not need to wait to receive your residence card.

If you want to run your own business, you should contact the Swedish Tax Agency.
