Family members may need an entry visa

You who are a family member of a Swiss citizen may need an entry visa before travelling to Sweden. If you need an entry visa, you must apply for it before you travel.

The Swedish Migration Agency may need to check your passport or national ID card before we can make a decision. You may therefore be required to present your passport or national ID card at one of the Swedish Migration Agency's Service Centres.

In some cases, you will not need to present your passport or national ID card. For example, if we have already checked it at a previous visit, we do not need to do so again.

If you need to present your passport or national ID card, we will contact you with information about how and when you can do so.

You must visit the Swedish Migration Agency as soon as possible to be photographed for your residence permit card, if you did not already do so when you presented your passport or national ID card. To visit the Swedish Migration Agency, you must first book an appointment.

You also need to do so if you have applied for an extended permit, as the personal data on your card has not been saved since the last time you submitted it.

As a Swiss citizen or family of a Swiss citizen, you have the right to start working or studying as soon as you arrive in Sweden. You do not need to wait to be granted a residence permit.

If you are going to work as an employee

If you are to work as an employee, you must apply for a coordination number with the Swedish Tax Agency, so that your employer can pay tax and employer contributions for you.

If you are going to start your own business

If you are going to start your own business, you must submit an application for an F-tax certificate to the Swedish Tax Agency. You may also need to register your company with the Swedish Companies Registration Office before you start running your business.

If you submitted an extension application before your previous permit expired, you have the right to remain in Sweden until the Swedish Migration Agency makes a decision.
