You have a permanent residence permit in Sweden and want to renew your residence permit card because it has expired.

Your residence permit card is proof that you have the right to be in Sweden. To get a new permanent residence permit card when your card expires, you will need to be photographed and fingerprinted again, because this information is not saved. You must contact the Swedish Migration Agency via My page or by telephone. After you have contacted us, you must book an appointment to be photographed and fingerprinted You book an appointment via My page. If you don’t have an account on My page you will need to create an account.

You can be photographed and fingerprinted no more than three months before your current residence permit card expires. Bring a valid identification document and your residence permit card to your booked appointment.

If you have lost your residence permit card

If you have lost your residence permit card or if it has been stolen, you must first report this to the police.

Once you have received your police report, send a copy of it to us:

A few days after we have received the copy, you should be able to book an appointment via My page to be photographed and fingerprinted. If the option to book an appointment is not available on My page within 14 days, you can contact us via My page or by telephone.

More Afghans may be able to receive passports from their home country

The Swedish Migration Agency estimates that Afghan authorities are now able to issue national passports to their citizens within a reasonable time. This means that Afghan citizens with a residence permit in Sweden no longer automatically have the right to an alien’s passport. Instead, the Swedish Migration Agency will review each application for an alien’s passport individually.
