Apply for extended protection between 28 January and 4 March
The e-service to apply for extended protection under the Temporary Protection Directive is now open.
The e-service to apply for extended protection under the Temporary Protection Directive is open between January 28 and March 4, 2026. If you want to remain in Sweden and your residence permit expires in 2026, you must apply for an extension of protection by 4 March. This also applies to those who have been registered in the Swedish national population register.
One application per family
You can apply for yourself, up to two adult co-applicant family members, and up to ten children under the age of 18 for whom you are the parent/legal guardian. Children can only be co-applicants to their own parents/legal guardians. Children without a parent/legal guardian can use the e‑service themselves, and the guardian does not need to confirm the application.
Easier to log in
This year we have made it easier to log in to the e-service. For secure login, the Swedish Migration Agency uses so-called two-step verification, which means that you receive a one-time code every time you log in to your account. The code was previously sent to your mobile phone, but since we can sometimes have problems sending SMS to foreign numbers, the Swedish Migration Agency will now send the code to your email address instead. This means that you now only need an email address to use the Swedish Migration Agency's e-services. If you have changed your email address since you last used the e-service, you need create a new account. You can also log in with your bank-id.
Visit the Swedish Migration Agency after you apply
After applying, everyone must visit the Swedish Migration Agency to be photographed and fingerprinted for their new residence permit cards. The time of the visit is booked in the e-service for the application. It is possible to visit the Swedish Migration Agency from 2 February. Once you have booked an appointment and submitted your application in the e-service, you have applied on time, even if your appointment is after 4 March.
If you have not yet been registered in the Swedish national population register and need financial help to travel to the Swedish Migration Agency, you can contact your unit for reception. You can book an appointment at any location you want, but you can only receive financial support for travel to the location closest to where you live.
