You have a permit in Sweden – Long-term residents in another EU country Your relationship has ended

You have a residence permit in Sweden as a family member of someone with a residence permit as a long-term resident in another EU country. Your relationship has now ended. Here you will find information about what applies to you and what you need to do.

If you have a residence permit to live with someone in Sweden with whom you are married or cohabiting partners, you must return to your country of origin if your relationship ends. Since you were granted your residence permit on the grounds of your relationship to a family member and you are no longer family, the Swedish Migration Agency can revoke your residence permit.

If your permit is revoked and you are still in Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency must also issue an expulsion decision.

If you have common children, the Swedish Migration Agency does not revoke the child's residence permit because he/she is still a family member of the person who has long-term resident status. However, if the child leaves Sweden with you, the Swedish Migration Agency may also revoke the child’s permit.

If you want to stay in Sweden, you must apply for a permit on other grounds.
