  • Do I have to submit my passport with my application?

    No. The Swedish Migration Agency will contact you by letter if we want you to submit your passport.

  • I have submitted my application but have not received a receipt. Should I submit a new application?

    No. We will send you a receipt by letter when the application is registered.

  • Can I apply for Swedish citizenship?

    You can take a test to see if you can become a Swedish citizen. Go to the page Testa om du kan bli svensk medborgare (in Swedish). Answer the questions and find out if you seem to meet the requirements for Swedish citizenship.

  • Where do you work on the applications for Swedish citizenship?

  • I sent in an application and wonder if anything is missing in my case?

    If anything is missing in your case, your administrator will contact you when he or she begins working on your case.

  • I’ve received a message that I have to sign my application, but I already signed it. Do I need to sign the application again?

    Yes, you need to sign it again.

  • My information on My page is incorrect. Can I change the information?

    If your address is incorrect, you should contact the Swedish Tax Agency to change your officially registered address. If your phone number is incorrect you must contact the Migration Agency.

  • I’ve had a child since I sent in my application for Swedish citizenship. Can I add the child to my application?

    If you have children during the processing time or forgot to include the child in your application, you and the child’s other guardian must notify the Swedish Migration Agency that you want the child to become a Swedish citizen together with you in a letter that you both have signed.

  • I want my passport back after I sent it in together with my application. Will that affect the wait time?

    No, it does not affect the wait time. You keep your place in the queue.

  • Can I call and request to get my passport back?

    In order to get your passport back, you have to fill in a form at migrationsverket.se. If you do not need your passport right now, we want you to wait to get your passport back.

  • Why doesn’t my certificate of citizenship have a signature on it?

    From 3 May 2019, we do not sign the certificate of citizenship.

  • Can you send my certificate of Swedish citizenship to me again?

    The Unit for Citizenship only sends the certificate of citizenship once. However, you can request a copy of your certificate by filling out a form on the website.

  • What does the Administrative Procedure Act that entered into force on 1 July 2018 mean for me as an applicant?

    The new Administrative Procedure Act is for you as an applicant and is intended to make you feel more secure about how government agencies, municipalities and regions are handling your case.

    If you feel that the processing of your application is taking too long, you are able, under the Administrative Procedure Act, to send in a written request that the Swedish Migration Agency conclude your case. For you to be able to send in a request to the Swedish Migration Agency, six months must have passed since you sent in your application. Then the Swedish Migration Agency has to either conclude your case or refuse your request within four weeks.

    To request that the Swedish Migration Agency conclude your case, you have to fill in the form Request to conclude a case, number 271011, and send it to the Swedish Migration Agency.

  • Why haven't I received my original documents although I have got a decision?

    We return original documents by recommended post within three weeks from the date of the decision.

  • Can I sign my web application with BankID if my child is included in my application?

    No, but you can sign your application with BankID if you only apply for yourself and have logged in with BankID.
