  • Do I have to submit my passport with my application?

    No. The Swedish Migration Agency will contact you by letter if we want you to submit your passport.

  • I have submitted my application but have not received a receipt. Should I submit a new application?

    No. If you used an application form in paper to apply for Swedish citizenship it will take long time for us to register your application. We will send you a receipt by letter when the application is registered.

  • Can I apply for Swedish citizenship?

    You can take a test to see if you can become a Swedish citizen. Go to the page Testa om du kan bli svensk medborgare (in Swedish). Answer the questions and find out if you seem to meet the requirements for Swedish citizenship.

  • Where do you work on the applications for Swedish citizenship?

  • I sent in an application and wonder if anything is missing in my case?

    If anything is missing in your case, your administrator will contact you when he or she begins working on your case.

  • I’ve received a message that I have to sign my application, but I already signed it. Do I need to sign the application again?

    No, you do not need to sign it and send it in again.

  • My information on My page is incorrect. Can I change the information?

    If your address is incorrect, you should contact the Swedish Tax Agency to change your officially registered address.

    We will contact you by letter when processing your case. This is why you do not need to change your phone number or your e-mail address if they are incorrect.

  • I’ve had a child since I sent in my application for Swedish citizenship. Can I add the child to my application?

  • I want my passport back after I sent it in together with my application. Will that affect the wait time?

    No, it does not affect the wait time. You keep your place in the queue.

  • Can I call and request to get my passport back?

    In order to get your passport back, you have to fill in a form at migrationsverket.se. If you do not need your passport right now, we want you to wait to get your passport back.

  • Why doesn’t my certificate of citizenship have a signature on it?

    Beginning 3 May 2019, we do not sign the certificate of citizenship. This allows us to more quickly be able to send the certificate to you.

  • Can you send my certificate of Swedish citizenship to me again?

    The Unit for Citizenship only sends the certificate of citizenship once. However, you can request a copy of your certificate by filling out a form on the website.
